The following page is devoted to some of my photographs of Passerines, more commonly (although less accurately) known as "perching birds" or "songbirds." Passerine birds make up more than half of all living birds. They are of small to medium size, have three toes pointing forward and one pointing back, and are often brightly colored. They also usually lay colored eggs.
Most of the birds shown on this page were photographed in Washington or British Columbia (where I lived until 2019), and a few perhaps from my travels around the western United States. Now I live in Colorado, so I will begin to add more photos of new local birds to my photo lists, as I have time and opportunity to do bird photography. However, I have many other bird photos that are not on this page, from an amazing
Birding Roadtrip through several birding hotspots across the country I embarked on in Spring 2008. If a bird appears in my birding road trip I make note of it as well as the state in which I saw it.
Disclaimer: With bird photography, by first goal is to just document the bird sighting, and after I've done that my goal becomes getting a good photo of the bird. So my bird photos range from identification "I've seen that bird" photos to good "I'd hang that on my wall" photos.
