Intro

One of my goals is to reach every named summit in RMNP. I am slowly ticking them off. By this point I had summited every 14-neer in RMNP (there is only one: Longs Peak) and every 13-neer in RMNP (there are nineteen) except one: Mt. Chiquita. So when I was looking for a nice morning hike before spending the afternoon and evening working on a data project, Chiquita sounded like a good choice. Plus, this area would be innaccessible soon, once Old Fall River Road closed for the season. I could easily include Mt. Chapin and Desolation Peaks—both of which I had never summited either—to make it a nice 3-summit link-up. (Note you could easily include Ypsilon as well to make it a 4-summit link-up, but I had already been to the summit of Ypsilon before and had afternoon obligations to get home for.) There is a nice trail to the summits of both Chapin and Chiquita (and a faint trail to the summit of Ypsilon), but Desolation entails a couple of miles of easy cross-country.

Below is a map and some photos from my morning traverse over three summits in RMNP.
