This is a 10+ mile loop trail along the eastern edge of RMNP that circles Lumpy Ridge, hiking through forests and meadows, past streams and flora and fauna, and underneath the granite formations of Lumpy Ridge I've climbed numerous days at
Lumpy Ridge, but had never hiked around it. So when I was looking for an enjoyable way to do my morning exercise, the Lumpy Loop sounded like a good objective.
I hiked the loop counterclockwise, which seems to be the popular way to do it. My round trip time was 4 hours and 50 minutes, which included a short lunch break in the sunny meadows underneath Lumpy Ridge close to the end of my hike. My time was slowed down a bit by lingering early spring snow on sections of trail on the north side of the loop. It is hard to believe that people have run this loop in just over an hour and a half.
Below is a sampling of photos from my morning hike.
