Laramie Range Climbing 2023-present

Nate and I had heard rumors of the "Laramie Range" in Wyoming, which reportedly had endless ridges and peaks of granite, similar to Vedauwoo but smoother and more hand sized cracks. I got ahold of a climbing guidebook "The Laramie Range" by Zach Orenczak and Rachael Lynn. When it arrived, Nate and I paged through it. An area called Reese Mountain caught our attention. A four hour drive from Estes Park, it looked to be a lot of rock and a lot of routes with a lot of stars and few people. Plus, the approach was long enough that we would want to backpack in and base camp, which sounded kind of fun.

So for Labor Day weekend 2023, Nate and I decided to make a trip to check out Reese Mountain. Ten minutes into the approach, we realized we were in for quite the 2-3 hour 'schwack (no surprise as the most recent mountainproject comment about tihs approach had been from 2015 and had noted it as terribly 'schwacky), so we wimped out and detoured to the roadside Kennedy Cluster. The climbing was okay, but probably not as good as at the elusive Reese Mountain area; we didn't feel the need to spend the entire weekend here, so we decided to spend the rest of the weekend at Vedauwoo.

On this page, I give photos from climbing in the Laramie Range, organized by date. At the bottom of the page, I keep a list of the climbs I've done in the Laramie Range.
