Cottontail Crag is a small crag near the East Portal Trailhead of RMNP. The crag is just inside the park boundary. It receives full sun and offers a small selection of hard routes. There are a few cracks (5.10 and 5.11) and a handful of sport pitches.

The first time I climbed at Cottontail Crag was in June 2023, nabbing a few pitches of climbing after we retreated off of Hallett earlier that morning.

On this page, I give photos from climbing at Cottontail Crag, organized by date. At the bottom of the page, I keep a list of the climbs I've done at Cottontail Crag.

Climbed at: Cottontail Crag
We had started the day by starting up the Hesse-Fergusson route on Hallett Peak, but we retreated from the top of the second pitch—the third pitch looked wet and dirty, the gear was poor, and we were not positive we were even on the route (we decided later we probably actually were on the route, but it is not climbed that often). It was before noon when we got back to the trailhead, so we decided to spend a few hours cragging at Cottontail Crag at the East Portal Trailhead of RMNP.
