Nice open ridge on the final stretch to the summit of Damnation Peak. Mt. Triumph and Thornton Peak towering across the valley.

INTRO

This page gives a brief trip report for an early December snowshoe to the summit of Damnation Peak. Thanks Eric and Mike for the fun day!

STATS

Total trip: ~8 miles, ~4100 ft gain/loss, ~8.5 hours (4.5 hours up, 30 min on summit, 3.5 hours down)
  • 7:46 AM : Sun rises
  • 7:40 AM : 2,240 FT : Leave car at start of logging road on Thornton Lakes Road
  • 9:30 AM : 3,000 FT : Put on snowshoes
  • 12:08-12:40 PM : 5,635 FT : Summit Damnation
  • 4:06 PM : 2,240 FT : Arrive back at car
  • 4:09 PM : Sun sets

From the Thornton Lake Road, hike a logging road along Damnation Creek to the base of the south ridge of Damnation. It's pretty shwacky at times.

Looking down south ridge we ascended from summit of Damnation. Little Devil is ridge across the way.
We decided to head down east slopes back to head of Damnation Creek below. This worked well. Despair, Triumph, Thornton in distance.
