Birds

This page displays my bird photography.
Yep, I am one of those crazy bird people.
Note: Over the years the focus of my website has shifted more towards climbing trip reports, so I stopped actively updating my photography section around 2015 or so. But, there are still several great photos here, so enjoy!

Intro

In 2006, my dad bought me a Canon Telephoto EF 400mm f/5.6L USM Lens, on the conditions that I "take a few bird photos so we can document the birds around where we live." After a few minutes stalking a friendly robin around our backyard, I was hooked.

Most of the birds I have photographed are from western North American birds from Washington and British Columbia, where I lived until 2019. As of June 2019, I live in Colorado, so it is possible I will begin to add more photos of new local birds to my photo lists, as I have time and opportunity to do bird photography. I've also traveled extensively around the western United States, always with my camera in tow. I've organized my bird photos into 4 categories on 4 different pages:
In Spring 2008, I embarked on an amazing Birding Roadtrip (link below) through several birding hotspots across the country, and photographed nearly 400 different species of birds from across the country. The birding roadtrip is organized into pages based on the 10 birding hotspots I stopped at.
In order to assist in navigating the bird photos I have on my website, I have created a Master list (below) that lists and links to all of the bird photos on my website.

The following list is an alphabetical list of all birds I have photos for on my website.

For each bird, there is a link(s) to the page(s) that has the photo. If the photo of the bird was taken on my Birding Roadtrip around the country (during which I photographed 359 different species), then it is link is to my birding roadtrip page for that particular state. If the photo was taken at another time, then the photo is posted on my songbirds, waterbirds, birds of prey & near passerines, or hummingbirds & woodpeckers page, as appropriate.

Disclaimer: With bird photography, by first goal is to just document the bird sighting, and after I've done that my goal becomes getting a good photo of the bird. So my bird photos range from "I've seen that bird" photos to "I'd hang that on my wall" photos.
